OLD SCHOOL APPLE CRISP
This recipe is almost identical to the school apple crisp. It is a keeper!

4 cups. sliced parted tart apples (about 4 mediums)
2/3 to 3/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup oats (can use the quick kind)
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/3 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup chopped pecans (my own addition)

Heat oven to 375°F. Grease an 8x8x2 baking dish/pan.

Place apple slices in pan. Mix remaining ingredients thoroughly, using a fork. Sprinkle over the apples. Bake 30 minutes or until apples are tender and top is golden brown.

Serve warm if possible, and if desired, with Vanilla Ice Cream.

VARIATION: CHERRY CRISP:

Substitute one can of Cherry Pie filling for the apples; use less amount of sugar.

This recipe is great! It took me back to elementary school. I have been searching for a yummy apple crisp recipe for years and I have found it. It tastes just like the old school apple crisp I loved in elementary school. My fiance eats very healthy but has a huge weakness for this dessert. He LOVES it and eats 3/4 of the pan when I make it, lol. I highly recommend this recipe.

Thank you so very much for posting this tasty recipe! I have mine in the oven right now. I was craving the "school lunch" version. I think this is THE BEST version of crisp. Has just the right amount of spices and crust to make it a true crisp. No need for variation or substitute..so good not need one! I am making a cherry one. Will top with some vanilla bean ice cream. YUMMY! Instead of five stars, I give this recipe five cherries! (or apples if you wish!) This is in my permanent collection.

Ok this is the right apple crisp and it's wonderful! However I found the apples missing something so I added a few sprinkles of nutmeg, sprinkled cinnamon all over the top then sprinkled dry tapioca then random sprinkles of some lemon juice then I cut tiny cubes of butter on top of that THEN add the topping it made it so much better and just like the old days

Phyllis, finally got around to making this after reading the new reviews for your wonderful London broil. Excellent apple crisp! I did dress the apples with sugar cinnamon nutmeg and lemon. Added a handful of raisins for hubby. It seemed too dry while baking, so, after 25 minutes I sprinkled with a couple tablespoons apple cider and sprayed top with vegetable oil. That got the party started! I pulled it out of the oven 20 min later, all bubbly and yum.. Ate it warm with pumpkin ice cream... Yay!

As I've stated in another recipe rating, I cannot taste. My husband really liked this apple crisp. We had it hot with vanilla frozen yogurt. It was very good and will make it again :)
