BETTER BURGERS
This quantity makes about three large or for burgers; recipe may be doubled. Adjust the seasonings according to your taste. A very hot preheated grill is best for grilling tasty burgers.

1 lb. ground beef (preferably chuck)
1/2 cup breadcrumbs (no cheese)
1 egg
1 tbsp. finely chopped fresh parsley
salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. onion powder
Optional: minced onion or garlic, chopped peppers, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, to taste

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well with clean hands or a wooden spoon until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this could result in dense burgers.

If desired, add any optional ingredients such as minced onion, chopped peppers, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, hot sauce, or other desired flavors, and mix lightly.

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a ball. Flatten each ball slightly into a patty about 3/4-inch thick.

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Season the grates or pan with cooking spray or brush with oil to prevent sticking.

Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F.

Serve on buttered, grilled buns, layered with slices of tomatoes, peppers, onions, and leaves of fresh lettuce. Serve accompanied by dill pickles and condiment bowls of ketchup, mustard, honey, mustard, and onion relish.
