KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES TREATS
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
1 (10 oz.) pkg. (about 40) regular marshmallows or 3 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal

In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and continue to stir until the marshmallows have completely melted. Remove from heat.

Stir in the Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal coating them well with the melted marshmallow mixture.

Using a buttered or silicone spatula, press the mixture evenly into a 13x9x2-inch pan which has been buttered or sprayed with non-stick spray or lined with wax paper.

Cut into squares when the mixture cools.

Makes 24 squares.

MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS:

Microwave butter with marshmallows on high setting for 2 minutes in a microwave safe mixing bowl. Stir together when melted. Microwave again on high for 1 additional minute. Stir in cereal, mixing until well coated. Press into pan as above.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats

My mom always used Fluff instead of marshmallows. I mean it is marshmallows, just not from the bag. She would use less Rice Krispies and they would be all white and gooey with the Fluff. OMG, best ever!!! I make mine this way.

Of course, you can add more Rice Krispies and it would look like it should, but so much better with less krispies.

I just LOVE Rice Krispie Treats! I've even figured out how to make ONE treat! 1 cup of Rice Krispies added to 2 tbsp. butter melted with 10 or 11 regular sized marshmallows. Press mix into the bottom of an 8X4 inch buttered aluminum loaf pan. Of course my "one" treat is 8x4 inches big, but isn't that the right size anyway? Only 4 stars 'cos this recipe needs more butter to get the right consistency and flavor.

Made dog bones out of the rice krispie treats you have to spray the the cookie cutter and press them in but to keep them soft until you're ready to use them put them in the oven and cover them with foil on low and and take as much as you need until you use all the Rice Krispies mix up the shapes come out perfect

Today I made these tasty treats using Gingerbread flavored marshmallows. Delicious, and just a tiny bit different. The family loves them, even the big kids (adults).

Has anyone used the Jumbo marshmallows? If so, how many did you use with the 5 cup Krispie ratio? Thanks!

 Wendy (Colorado) says:
I am so glad someone remembers the REAL recipe having a stick of butter. I can still see that stick melting down to a little sliver. They were so much better that way.

Love all the suggestions especially about the vanilla. I seem to get stuck with bags of stale marshmallows frequently which most people learn the hard way don't melt very well in the Krispie treat recipe. I discovered I can still easily make Krispie treats out of stale marshmallows by adding water to the butter/marshmallow mixture on the stovetop. Depending on how stale they are, I usually start with a couple tablespoons of water and keep adding a table spoon until they start melting. I usually get pretty good results and it doesn't take very long.

I have made Rice Krispie treats for over 40 years and the original recipe called for 5 cups of RK's... If I use 6 cups I increase the marshmallows by 7. My kids and grand kids ask for them for their bake sales and they actually advertise "Mrs. S's Rice Krispie Treats" lol... I can prepare courses of anything you want just don't ask me to BAKE! Or knit !

It is really easy to pat down the mixture if you wet your hands a little with cold water... my grandma taught me this. It is a lot less messy and you can get a very even layer.

I found that using 5 cups mini marshmallows and 5 1/2 cups Rice Krispies and 4 tbsp butter makes perfect treats. Nice and soft and gooey. Too many Krispies makes them dry and hard.

I just spray my hands with spray on cooking oil. Problem solved!

 LaRie (Oklahoma) says:
Silicone spatula worked great. Thought about using my silicone cupcake holders (one for each hand) since I don't like them much for cupcakes. What should the time be cut to for high power microwave's (1300W)? I forget this is way too long until I overcook the marshmallow whenever I use the microwave method.

I use two sandwich bags on my hands to shape it. I don't put it in a pan, I just shape it on a piece of parchment paper. No pan to clean and so easy.
