THELMA'S OATMEAL COOKIES 
This was my mothers recipe.

1 cup shortening (Crisco)
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. almond extract
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2 cups coconut flakes
1 cup chopped nuts
2 cups oatmeal

Beat shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, vanilla and almond extract. Add spices, salt, baking soda, baking powder with flour and sift. Add rest of ingredients. Mix and form into balls. Flatten with fork dipped in cold water. Bake at 375°F for 12 minutes.

Makes 6 dozen cookies.
