Would not want to live on this, but do like it a couple times a year. Always had it at Easter time. I really liked it.

Oh, my goodness! A blast from my childhood. My grandmother used to serve this and I can't believe that it is a real recipe. My sisters and I always thought that she made it up because it would have been very inexpensive to make. We always loved it. I can't wait to make a trip to the grocery store and give it a try. Thanks so much. By the way, she was German.

Where in Louisiana? My grandma was a Nussbaum in New Orleans. My 92 year old mother just told me my grandmother taught her mother making.

Bernadette, as I was reading your review from Jun 1, it was like you were writing my exact thoughts. My grandmother was German also and I remember this recipe from when I was a kid. Funny but I too always thought she made it because we never had any money! I always loved it. So glad this memory is an actual recipe and not just fond memories of a time long past.

I went to a little school in Kansas that had a German cook. She made this recipe once. It was not well received by the kids :-)

Just like I remember as a kid that my family would make on Good Friday. I didn't see this recipe in many places so it was nice to have this as a handy reference.

My Hungarian Grandmother, and my mother use to make this dish. It was sooo good. I vaguely remember there being crispy bacon involved. I may be confusing another similar recipe. It has been 50 years since I've eaten this dish, until today. Thank you for the memory.
