BOLOGNA SANDWICH
Buy some ham or bologna (one pack) and some bread (one loaf) and buy a little jar of mustard. Then you make yourself a bologna sandwich. Put the bread down on the table, put the bologna on it. Spread the mustard on the bologna. Put another piece of bread on the bologna, then eat it with some milk. Then clean up.

Now, can you put the mustard on the bread or does it have to go on the bologna?? I really don't want to mess this up, I'm making it for a fancy dinner and want to get it perfect!

Can't decide whether to use Oscar Meyer or a generic low fat brand but all in all this sounds great. Can't wait to make up my mind which bologna to buy and try it. Maybe I'll have it for my husband's dinner party for when the boss is coming over. Thanks so much for sharing.

A great variation is what my grandfather referred to as a "Hot Dog Sandwich". You melt a little butter in a skillet, brown a slice of bologna on both sides. Slather mustard on each slice of bread, add the cooked bologna, slap it together and VOILA! You have a "Hot Dog Sandwich!"

We call it a Flat Hot Dog! And it's the best way to eat bologna!

 Joy (Georgia) replies:
My daddy called it GA round steak, hot dogs were GA tube steak and paper grocery bags were GA Samsonite. My favorite recipe is fried crispy, add mayo on one slice of bread and Vidalia onion relish on the other. Add meat, sliced cheese to hot bologna (so as to melt slightly) and sweet Vidalia (PRONOUNCED VIE-dale-yuh) onions with salt and lots of black pepper. Mash together and eat with gusto-might need two, My mother in law used to fry and fill the cups with scrambled eggs and called it a "Mexican Hat", didn't realize it was such a FAMILY tradition! Even Hardees fast food joint offers a bologna and egg biscuit, must be something to all this! lol lol lol

DeeAnn - I had completely forgotten about cooking in butter first. To think I had 2 sandwiches this week with only mustard on bread then meat, first.

Cute. I had to look just to see who would do a sandwich recipe. Hate mustard, but salad dressing works good too.

Try this variation. Fry bologna in lightly greased pan.Toast two slices of bread and spread mayonnaise on both. Place bologna on one slice add lettuce, slice of tomato, slice of onion and a couple slices of a jalapeno cut lengthwise. Cover with other slice of bread and WHAM! You will never eat another boring bologna sandwich.

These all sound good, but the BEST way to eat a bologna sandwich is to have it fresh sliced on #1. Put it on fresh white bread with Hellmanns mayo and potato chips. Yum!

 Gena (California) replies:
Hellman's mayo? Isn't that the midwest version of Best Foods?

Heck, here in the Carolinas it's Duke's mayo or nothing... it's the best and no sugar added too boot.

Great recipe! I, too, was putting the mustard on the bread. How foolish of me! I have, since, come up with an interesting variation of this wonderful recipe. Here it is: Put the bread down on the table. Put the bologna on it. Spread the mustard on the bologna. Put another piece of bread on the bologna. (Here comes the twist.) Flip the sandwich. Take the top piece of bread off. Spread mayonnaise on the bologna. Put the bread back on. Eat the sandwich with your favorite beverage. Clean up. Try this variation. You will love it!
