Nice and easy. However make sure you use an extra large pot. A large standard soup pot was a bit small causing dumplings to form together. Next time I'm gonna use a large oval pot instead.

There are many variations of dumplings two of which are the "fluffy type" with baking powder allowing the dumplings to rise cake like on top of the stew; the other type is the "drop dumpling" with eggs that absorb the moisture of the entre' being cooked -- eggs are added and baking powder is eliminated. I prefer the first when there is gravy... the last when the entre's is a soup -- in which they get dropped by teaspoonfuls into boiling liquid.

I hesitantly tried this. I say hesitantly because it looked way too easy and uncomplicated and consisted of ingredients we all have in our house at all times. These were the best dumplings I have ever eaten (better than my mom's - sorry mom). Although I am not so much a fan of stew I find I am making it more often to be able to make these, but just as great on soup too although you need to add a fair amount of extra broth to both soup and stew to be absorbed by the dumplings. No problems though - just use beef broth from a carton. The best!
