Delicious and souper-easy! Beware, this recipe serves 8-10 people. It's enormous. Thanks to whoever shared this recipe!

Sadly canned cream of mushroom soup from most supermarket sources contains MSG or one of its aliases such as 'hydrolysed plant protein'. *sigh* have to make cream of mushroom soup the long way then.

 Sarah (Ontario) replies:
First, MSG, or monosodium glutamate, is the saltier salt and the best umami-infusing ingredient ever. It's not cancerous, it's not unhealthy in normal doses (like salt) and the war on msg was a ruse with false pretenses on immigrants.

Second, Hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) is most commonly made by first boiling food items such as soy, corn, or wheat. The solution is then neutralized using an acid called sodium hydroxide (baking soda), resulting in the breakdown of the proteins found in these foods. It's soup stock, you ninny... Nothing to do with msg.
