Jello Shots

 Nancy (Indiana) says:
I had some wine that was a lot dryer than we liked so used it as the booze in Jello shots. Red wine and raspberry jello was great. Also Amaretto and cherry Jello are a wonderful combination.

 Stef (New Jersey) says:
Try orange jello with Amaretto!!! Or Southern Comfort with lime jello!

 Jaimie (Iowa) says:
We always use flavored liquor to complement whatever jello flavor we are using. Our favorites are Peach Schnaps and Orange Jello and Malibu Rum with Pineapple jello.

Thank you very much Jacqui for the recipe. My nieces husband was the jello shot and pudding shot maker for all our parties. I have been looking for a recipe for pudding shots since his death to carry on the tradition in his memory.

 Regina (Colorado) replies:
Jacqui - the pudding shots sounds awesome. Do they not curdle with the milk?

 Ron Hindmarsh (Utah) replies:
In regards to pudding shots, use small boxes of instant pudding with half milk and half alcohol. Now for combinations: butterscotch pudding with butterscotch schnapps, cheesecake pudding with tequila rose, white chocolate pudding with white chocolate liqueur.. Now you get the idea, let your imagination go!

 Karen Ours (Indiana) says:
We like pina colada jello shots. I use two small boxes of pineapple jello, small size can of coco lopez cream of coconut, small can of crushed pinapple in light syrup, bacardi rum. You use the "jigglers" recipe ...but with this version, use just enough hot water to dissolve the jello. The coconut & pineapple replace some of the liquid. You can make them as strong as you like, but I find 1 cup of rum is plenty. I also make a strawberry margarita version with "wild strawberry" jello and white tequila. I buy the cups and lids from a restaurant supply store, but the folks at Captain D's fastfood seafood have sold me sleeves of each before, for a couple of bucks. (They put lemon wedges in them for carry-out meals.)

 Mark (United States) says:
The best flavor I have tried is to use watermelon jello and Southern Comfort (alcohol). Tastes like a watermelon jolly rancher! Enjoy!!!

 Vanessa (Texas) says:
Can you use Smirnoff in this recipe?
 #21515
 Nathalie (Saskatchewan) says:
For a better taste, use a fruit juice instead of water. Makes it even more flavourful.
 #21457
 Beth (Ontario) says:
Well I use dry gin. A cup of gin to a cup boiling water. Grape jello is really good. Have fun but be careful.

Can you make jello shots using Tequila?
 #191251
 Samantha (Texas) replies:
Of course! For example Tequila Lime Jello Shots.

 Mindy (Colorado) says:
I like peach scnapps with orange jello! Disolve jello in 1 cup hot water, let that cool a little bit then add 1 cup peach schnapps and chill. Its fun just use your imagination. Mix and match what ever sounds good. Just stick to this basic idea and they usually turn out fine.

 Mike D. (Louisiana) says:
If you are worried about people getting drunk or whatever. I suggest you make some jello shots with alcohol and some without. There are plenty of flavorings out there like rum, pinacolada, etc., etc.

Ok were do you purchase 2 oz plastic cups at i have looked everywhere for some i love making jello shots but i never have the right size plastic cups.
 #21256
 Amanda (Texas) replies:
Diamond, I used to go to Taco Beuno and would offer them for a package of solo cups... they had maybe 500 in one package give or take, but enough to cover a few parties when I was in college, so plenty to go around and then some. I dont know if they would still do it, it might depend on the store, but I am sure you could go to Costco and get them as they cater to small businesses that may need them, or I know wal-mart has small cups in their paper plates/cups section and they have very small cups that work just fine too. And if all else fails, make them in regular cups and then once jelloed (sp?) work the jello out and serve them with out cups, I have seen them served that way before to and no one seemed to mind! Also a little side note to the discussion of vodka vs. everclear, Vodka is so much more responsible and safe, drinking should be done for fun but not to get wasted, stick with vodka!

 Cooks.com replies:
I get my plastic cups at restaurant supply stores. They sell the covers separately, but they are handy for avoiding spills.

Otherwise, you can also use the tiny plastic Dixie cups that are 1 or 2 oz. Another way to make them is in silicone baking cups like those used for muffins.

Silicone ice cube trays are good for the purpose. Pop them out of the ice cube tray and pile them into a plastic cocktail glass and sit them in a tray of shaved or cracked ice with candles in between to light up the Jello.

Wilton's has silicone brownie molds that are small squares, too (you can also get silicone pinch cups at Target that are around the size and shape of half an egg).

Clear plastic drink glasses (or even fancy cocktail glasses) can be used, then serve with a twist of lemon garnish or top with rum-flavored whipped cream!

Happy New Year!

 StacyL21 (Texas) replies:
We make jello shots for pretty much any "party occasion" and always make them with vodka. The best flavors with the vodka to us are the strawberry, berry blue, and lime. These flavors seem to mask the burn of the vodka. I too, would stick to vodka as everclear is very strong and deadly. We buy our cups at a restaurant supply store as well, and usually make close to 500 at a time. Where we get the a pack of 125 is like 2 dollars and the lids cost the same, because they are sold separately. We use the 1 ounce size, and have never had any complaints about the size of the shot. If you are paying for all of the stuff to make them, and no one is chipping in on expenses you have complete say in what size you use!!! Happy New Year to you all!!! Be SAFE!!!

I find the cups at Sams Club. I can't remember the price because you get so many it takes a while to use them all unless you are having a REALLY big party. Also didn't see anyone mention it, but the Watermelon jello makes yummy jello shots!

Try a medical supply store for 2 oz. cups. The medicine cups work well.
 #22124
 Sharon (Maine) replies:
The cups used for jello shots can be purchased from a medical supply store for a couple bucks also. That's where I get mine. Our favorite kinds here are island pineapple with a coconut rum, and the strawberry daiquiri jello with plain rum. When we have a party having the jello shots I usually make some orange and purple (non-alcoholic) ones for the kids and give them plastic spoons with theirs. They love them.

 Crystal (United States) replies:
We use 30cc syringes for our jello shots... they work great and are reuseable!! They can be found at a medical supply store. They are kinda pricey but if you make them alot you actually save money in the long run!
 #24174
 Maryetta (Missouri) replies:
You can go to a medical store and buy the extra large syringe. When you use it just push on the plunger of the syringe and then shoot them in your mouth...a lot of fun and you can use the syringe over and over again. Just wash them and refill them.

 Terri (British Columbia) replies:
I make jello shooters all the time and have tried many of the combinations listed above. I prefer white rum or flavoured vodka. I just use the medical-cups which I purchase from a medical store. If you don't have time to make jello shooters you can also soak gummy bears and any other gummy candies. Rum and coke bottles are good. The gummy bears soak up booze and plump up. Raspberry Sour Puss works great for these. You can get creative in your combinations. Only soak for about 3-4 hours, you may need to add more booze as it soaks up quickly. If you soak overnight they may suck up all the booze and gel together. Serve in a medical-cup with a toothpick. Enjoy!

What always works best for me (and my guests love it) is using Grape jello and Grape Pucker, Apple pucker with Lime jello, any of the flavored Pucker drinks and match it with a jello flavor. You follow the directions on the box, but instead of the "cold water" measurements, use the Pucker instead. Mine always turn out great!
