Chocolate Strawberry Cake - Recipe

CHOCOLATE STRAWBERRY CAKE

1 box Butter Lovers Chocolate Cake Mix
4 eggs
2 sticks (1 cup) of butter, softened
3/4 cup mashed strawberries
1 3oz box strawberry jello
1/4 cup water
1/2 tsp vanilla

Icing:

1 8 oz pkg cream cheese
1 stick butter (1/4 lb)
1 1/2 lbs powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. milk (for moistening)
1 cup sliced strawberries (for layering and decoration)

Mix cake ingredients with mixer until creamy. Pour into 2 9 inch round greased and floured cake pans.

Bake at 350°F for 20 - 25 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Let cool.

Mix Icing ingredients in a Mixer or with a hand mixer til well blended and creamy.

Build the cake as follows: Cut each round in half lengthwise. Spread some of the icing. Top with strawberry peices. Top with next layer of cake. Repeat until last piece of cake. Then spread all of the cake with the icing and decorate the cake with more strawberries.

My 7 year old daughter thought up this recipe idea for her birthday cake. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

I'm not able to find Butter Lovers Chocolate Cake Mix. Can I use any standard chocolate cake mix for this recipe? (i.e. Betty Crocker, Duncan Hines, etc.) Please let me know- I'd love to make this cake for my sister's birthday! Thanks!

I'd say any chocolate cake recipe is good.. the butter lovers is just buttery and yummy. We like moist cakes. Either way, use anything you want and make it your own. It is delicious!!!

Wonderful recipe! This has become a family favorite. I have even used a Duncan Hines Devils food cake mix and it taste even better than the regular chocolate cake mix. But remember to use three round cake pans if you use the devils food cake mix. Thanks Bernadette & Hendrix for submitting a great cake recipe!!

WOW, I was reluctant to try this because of all the butter, but I made it for an office get together and WOW, just make it exactly as it says (I did add mashed strawberries to the icing... Yummy and pretty). Now I'm back to get the recipe to add to my favorites in my personal cookbook!!
