1 cup shortening (Crisco)
2 cups packed brown sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup finely chopped walnuts

Cream shortening, brown sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs and mix well.

Sift together flour, salt and baking soda. Add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Add nuts and mix until well blended. Shape the dough into 2-long rolls, 2 inches in diameter. Wrap each roll in waxed paper. Chill until firm.

Cut chilled rolls into 1/8-inch slices. Bake on a baking sheet at 375°F for 8 minutes.

Makes 9 dozen small cookies.
